Video: Nissan GT-R Pwns Competition in Mega Drag Race with 11 Sports Cars

The latest Nissan GT-R has put another victory under its belt, this time in a drag race against ten of some of the world's most wanted sports cars at an empty airstrip.
The quarter-mile duel was organized by Motor Trend magazine. The eleven cars assembled were worth more than $1.5 million, and featured a combined 82 cylinders delivering over 5,000 horsepower and 4,000 lb-ft of torque.
The $89,950 and 530HP Nissan GT-R passed through the finish line first with a time of 11.2 seconds and an exit speed of 121.8mph (196km/h). It was followed by the $225,325 and 557HP Ferrari 458 Italia (11.3 seconds and 125.6mph or 202km/h) and the $198,600 and 560HP Audi R8 GT (11.5 seconds and 125.1mph or 201km/h).
The other cars that participated in the race were the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Lexus LFA, Corvette Z06, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca, Porsche Cayman R, BMW 1-Series M Coupe and the Lotus Evora S (click on the image on your right to see the results).
Nissan, of course, was quick to issue a somewhatpompous press statement on the GT-R's win:
“We applaud Motor Trend’s editors for pulling off the automotive equivalent of the running of the bulls,” said Brian Carolin, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Nissan North America.
“Win or lose, it’s great fun and a great video – especially since we won. In all fairness, if we were running for pink slips, we would have had to bring at least two GT-Rs to match the cost of the competitors. We’ll settle for the title of baddest of the bad," he added.

Porsche 911 GT3 R : Race car for customer sport now with even better driveability

2012 Porsche 911 GT3 R

STUTTGART : September 2, 2011 - Amongst racing customers all over the world, the Porsche 911 GT3 R is extremely popular for its forgiving handling and basic speed. And it is exactly in this direction that the improvements for the 2012 model year have been targeted. The engine output has increased by 20 hp to now deliver 500 hp (368 kW). Paddle-shifts on the steering wheel ensure gear changes are even quicker and simpler, making it easier for pilots to concentrate on braking. Moreover, the transmission electronics, featuring an automatic throttle blip control, make it almost impossible to miss a gear and over-rev the engine. A softer anti-roll bar on the front axle reduces understeer.

The power increase of the four-litre, six-cylinder flat engine in the rear was achieved through optimisation of the intake system. The gearing of the sequential six-speed dog-type gearbox was adapted to the higher maximum output. In order to bring the power to the tarmac safely and to assist race drivers, the 911 GT3 R has featured a sophisticated ex-works traction control since the 2010 model year. An efficient race-ABS assists braking.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 R will be delivered to teams around the world from November 2011. The vehicle costs 304,500 Euro plus the value added tax of respective countries. The Porsche 911 GT3 R from the 2010 and 2011 model years can be upgraded to the 2012-spec. An upgrade kit is available from Porsche Motorsport for 43,100 Euro.

The 911 GT3 R represents the mid-range of Porsche’s customer racing vehicles. The 911 GT3 Cup, as the top-selling race car in the world, serves as the basis. Ranking above the 911 GT3 R is the 911 GT3 RSR, built for GT2 racing, which competes in series like the American Le Mans Series, the Le Mans Series and at the Le Mans 24 hour race.

TECHART Aerodynamic Kit I

Exciting, sporty and markedly elegant - the contour of the three-piece front spoiler is a clear statement regarding the SUV's newly acquired TECHART gene and sets an attractive visual highlight. Integrated air ducts also ensure an optimized cooling of the brake system. The multifunctional daytime running light system, the TECHART lighting packages with LED technology or halogen headlights are available as an option for the Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

The TECHART daytime running light system does not only serve as a sophisticated design feature. Like TECHART's lighting packages, it also makes a significant contribution to improving road safety. The LED system unit combines daytime running light, side lighting, parking lighting and turn signal lights in one common housing and blends in perfectly with the design of the Cayenne's front end. The luminous intensity of the lights automatically adapts depending on the day light setting selected. In addition to that, the daytime running lights are dimmed when the vehicle is turning to ensure that the turn signals stand out. Typical for TECHART - the system is ECE approved and fulfills all prerequisites of the ECE regulation R87 for daytime running lights.

Fitting side skirt panels underline the elegant and sporty look of the SUV when viewed from the side. TECHART original equipment quality: only high-quality polyurethane RIM is used for all exterior components of the aerodynamic kit. The material ensures at the same time ease of painting, installation and maintenance, including trouble-free installation at every Porsche center and every authorized service center.

The elegant design of the aerodynamic kit can also be recognized here when viewing the rear end of the vehicle. Visually and technically, the TECHART roof spoiler and the TECHART rear apron with integrated diffuser and two subtle reflectors on the sides of the tailgate underline the SUV's driving dynamics. Discrete design highlight: the two pieces of trim lend the taillights of the Porsche Cayenne a dynamic look. Matched trimming and exterior styling packages in paint or carbon fibre allow for almost unlimited possibilities to realize personal style.

The aerodynamic kit is not only impressive visually. Thanks to TECHART's sport exhaust system with EC type approval, the Cayenne complements its sporty look with an impressive sound. TECHART's dual tail pipes with embossed lettering complete the TECHART look of the Cayenne's rear end.

Furthermore there are Formula and Formula II light alloy wheels in dimensions of 20- to 23-inch or 22- and 23-inch as well as Formula III forged light alloy wheels in 21- and 22-inch available. Performance Kits for Cayenne Diesel and Cayenne Turbo

There are altogether three performance kits delivering a significant improvement of driving dynamics and acceleration of the Porsche Cayenne models. For instance, the TA 058/D1 performance kit provides the Cayenne Diesel with an additional 29 kW (40 hp) and 70 Nm torque, helping the SUV to accelerate to 100 km/h from standstill in 7.2 seconds and reach 160 km/h in just 18.9 seconds. The TA 058/T1 performance kit for the Turbo version of the Porsche Cayenne is also impressive. 412 kW (560 hp), a maximum torque of 780 Nm and accelerating to 100 km/h or 160 km/h in 4.4 and 9.9 seconds respectively are the results of the first level of customization. The heart of both kits is the intelligent TECHART engine management system called TECHTRONIC. Once installed, the engine control system provides just as much additional power as needed for every driving situation at the push of the standard sport button located in the center console. Up to full boost for maximum acceleration.

Successful double pass - thanks to the intelligent networking and communication between the engine management system and TECHTRONIC, the performance kits are impressive due to optimized output values in all areas and a balanced torque in terms of performance. The standard engine electronics remain untouched without affecting vehicle diagnostics or servicing. In addition to the two-year warranty, TECHART offers a warranty for engine and transmission problems in accordance with TECHART's warranty provisions.

World Premiere – TECHART performance kit TA 058/T2

During the IAA, TECHART will also present the world premiere of the TA 058/T2 performance kit for the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. The demand of TECHART customers for dynamic performance and driving pleasure is satisfied with a total output of over 440 kW (600 hp) and a maximum torque of more than 900 Nm.

Handmade Masterpieces – TECHART interior individualization

Perfect craftsmanship: TECHART produces customized masterpieces every day at its own manufactory, such as complete leather interiors with matching decorative stitching. TECHART upholsterers and master upholsterers fulfill every request with regard to interior appointments at highest level of craftsmanship - for an elegant and unique atmosphere and highest demands on comfort and individuality. Another highlight: the wide variety of entertainment options for the Cayenne such as TECHART's W2 entertainment package with two screens integrated in the headrests of the front seats. In addition to innovative entertainment, TECHART offers exclusive comfort in the rear passenger compartment of the SUV with folding individual seats and a elegant center console unit, equipped with 12 V outlet, a spacious bar and storage compartment and covered with fine Alcantara.

2012 Porsche 911 First Official Photos

It was bound to happen; the very first official press photos of the new 2012 Porsche 911 were leaked onto the internet today well ahead of the sports coupe's world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September.
If you're having a hard time spotting the styling changes we won't blame you as the 991 was closely modeled after the outgoing 997.
And while there may be more differences than we care to mention, the most eye-catching alterations concern the concave front LED daytime running lamps, the door-mounted exterior mirrors and the much thinner and more futuristic looking LED tail lamps that adorn the more heavily sculpted rear end.
As anticipated, the new 911's interior blends the two styling worlds of the 997 and the Panamera into one. A key highlight is the pronounced lower part of the center console that hosts a number of buttons.
Move away from the styling and you'll find a larger platform with a 4.0-inch longer wheelbase as well as a new pair of engines, with the basic Carrera sporting a 3.4-liter boxer delivering 350HP, and the Carrera S, a 3.8-liter flat-six producing around 400-horsepower.
In both models, power is channeled to the driving wheels through a new 7-speed manual gearbox or an optional PDK transmission.
Stay tuned on Carscoop for more news on the new Porsche 911, as it won't be long before the German automaker comes out with a full release.
