We bring you these specifications courtesy a Team-Bhpian. Hence, this information isn’t yet official and the final specifications might vary from what we’re carrying on ICB today. The Hyundai Eon will arrive with a 3 cylinder, 814cc petrol engine producing a peak power of 56 PS at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 76.5 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The high point of this engine is the high fuel economy that is claimed for the Eon, which at 21.1 KMPL, leads the entry level small car class.
A five speed manual gearbox, which has been borrowed from the Santro Xing does gear shifting duties on the Eon. The Hyundai Eon could be available in no less than six variants and this means that like the Verna Fluidic, Hyundai India could price the Eon too in a very wide price band thus offering car buyers a lot of choice. From the information we have right now, the Eon will be available in D-Lite, D-lite(O), Era, Magna, Magna(O) and Sportz variants.
Of these variants, the D-Lite Variant will be the base variant that will be available with body colored bumpers and wait for this, minus air conditioning and power steering. This means that Hyundai India could position the Eon very competitively as these features are absent on the base variant of the Maruti Alto as well. So, expect a cracker of a price tag that could gun straight for the current market leader, the Maruti Alto.
Since a lot of first time car buyers are expected to buy the Eon given the car’s positioning as an entry level budget car, a gear indicator will light up the Eon’s instrumentation console and this is a segment leading feature of the Eon. Moving up, another variant of the D-Lite called the D-lite-(O) brings in air conditioning to the equation although power steering s still missing. The power steering makes an appearance with the Era variant of the Eon.
The Magna variant of the Eon will feature bigger 13 inch tubeless tyres while also bringing a host of creature comforts to the equation. An entertainment console in the form of a music system is what the Magna(O) variant comes with. This variant also has a rear parcel tray. Finally, the Sportz variant of the Eon is the top end fully loaded variant with a driver side airbag being a segment leading feature.
This critical safety feature means that the Hyundai Eon will stand head a shoulders above the rest of the entry small car pack when it comes to safety ratings. Disappontingly though, ABS is missing on the top end Sportz variant. We for one, feel that ABS is much more important than Airbags as preventing a crash in the first place would be better than actually having the airbag inflating to protect you after a crash.
All said, the equipment list on the Hyundai Eon means that the car has plenty in store for both the entry level small car buyer or even for the car buyer upgrading from say a Maruti 800 or a Maruti Alto. The big question remains pricing but given the variants on offer, the Eon should be priced very close to the Maruti Alto at around INR 2.5-2.6 Lakhs for the base variant. Here are the complete list of specifications of the Hyundai Eon small car.
